Best Summer Beauty Tips For Skin And Hair
Summer. You need the best beauty tips for skin and hair, do you know what they are?
I love summer. It’s the perfect time to enjoy warm, sun-filled days. It’s the perfect time to plan barbecues with friends and family. It’s the perfect time to go swimming and boating at the local lake.
It’s also the perfect time to implement some of the best beauty tips for skin and hair. Do you take the time each summer to think about your skin? The different makeup products you use? How you and your makeup will withstand the sun, heat and humidity? If you don’t, you should and now’s the time to do so!
Beauty Tips for Skin and Hair:
Tip #1: The Makeup Bag Conversion.
Just like you change your closet from fall/winter to spring/summer, you need to change your makeup bag. Now is the time to put away all of those gorgeous fall/winter colors. You know the ones I’m talking about…the burgundy lipsticks, the wine colored nail polish, the deep green eyeshadows. Take a look at your foundation – does it need to be changed?
As the seasons change, you can find your skin tone changes or has different requirements based on the weather. And, it might be time to put away the shiny lipglosses as they will melt in the summer heat, leaving your lips with no color at all.
Once your fall/winter makeup is put away, it’s time to get your makeup bag ready for summer. For me, this often requires a trip to my favorite store, you know the one…begins with an “S” and ends with an “A.”
In fact, I was just there yesterday and chose some amazing shades for summer, including two new matte lipsticks and a cream blush that won’t melt away like the powder I use in the winter. Take the time to speak to one of the associates and ask what new items they have for the upcoming season.
You don’t have to take all of their recommendations, but pick a few key items that work for you! (*Note: If you can hit your favorite makeup store on a weekday morning it’s ideal. Much less crowded than the weekends and the associates have a lot more time to help you with recommendations and show you new products.)
Tip #2: Less is more.
Now, maybe I should’ve discussed this before you head off to the mall to purchase a few things for your summer makeup collection, but keep this in mind. Your summer makeup is not going to be as “heavy” as your winter makeup.
What do I mean by that? Well, it’s just probably not going to have as many layers. You may be able to get away with a hydrating foundation, a bit of blush, some mascara, and a swipe of lipstick. Lip liner, eyeliner, powder (which can clump in the summer heat) may all be put to the side right now so you have a more natural, summer beauty look.
Tip #3: SPF is your friend.
Sunscreen is not just for the beach. In fact, this is an everyday thing. Look for primers, foundations, moisturizers, lipsticks – you name it – that contain SPF. You should have no problem finding one that works for your skin. And, they come in a wide variety of price ranges to suit all wallets.
Tip #4: Bronzers and tanners.
Not all of us have the luxury of getting that sun-kissed look from being outside. After all, we may work, we may take care of children, we may be doing lots of things that don’t afford us time in the sun. BUT, today’s bronzers and tanners have come a long way from the days when you seemed to turn orange if you used them. (Do you remember the orange days? Maybe I’m just showing my age!)
All it takes is a little experimentation – finding the product and color that works for you. Personally, I use an aerosol tanner for my body and a tanning cream for my face, along with a little powder bronzer. It gives me just the right amount of color to have people asking me, “Where did you go on vacation?”
Tip #5: Save your mani and pedi.
Summertime is prime time for manicures and pedicures. Tank tops, pretty sundresses and sandals are all perfectly accessorized with a great coat of nail polish. But, we all know that a manicure and pedicure just doesn’t seem to last as long as we would hope sometimes. So…my advice for summer manis and pedis comes in two parts.
The first part of this advice: Buy a few of your favorite polishes in colors that you love and bring them with you when you go to the nail salon. There is nothing worse than chipping your nails within a day or two of your mani or pedi and not being able to touch them up. If you have your own polish – a touch up is simple! And will make your mani/pedi last much longer.
The second piece of advice I offer for making your mani and pedi last longer is to invest in a bit of sparkle! Yes, buy a glittery nail polish! If your nail polish starts to chip, a glittery nail polish can easily be applied to cover the chips and provide a dash of sparkle! It’s a great way to extend the life of your nail polish.
